Hi, Im thinking about buying the GTX 780. I dont know much about building computers, but I know how to install a new gpu. Do I have to upgrade anything else before buying it?

SPECS:
HIS Radeon HD 7870
Intel Core i5-3470
Kingston ValueR 8GB
XFX Pro Series 550W
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
Motherboard: MSI B75MA-P45, Socket-1155

Solution
-CPU is just fine , Ivy Bridge architecture is still in the game
- Your PSU will handle the GTX 780. The minimum requirements for GTX 780 is a 600w PSU but the wattage requirement is not that strict. The important aspect the that this GPU needs 42 A at +12 V and this PSU offers 44 A at +12 V so you are good to go . Plus, XFX is a very good and trusted PSU brand. If you want to feel safer go for a 650w PSU.
Now if you are planning on doing any upgrades any time soon I would say buy a higher wattage PSU like 750W because the way I see it ,GPUs of the future are gonna be ''hungry'' for power

As a general rule of thumb, you want a little too much power than you need... for headroom. That doesn't mean go out and get 1000w for one GTX 780, but I would go for 650-700w like has already been stated. If you ever see yourself getting a 2nd 780 for SLI, then you will need 800-850w at least.

Your i5 is more than enough. You know you can overclock it a little right?

I know :) they say than much to cover the bad PSUs also the ones that say 600w and thei produce like 500w. XFX is one of the best PSU brands ( Seasonic makes the majority of their stuff ) . Also I do not think you can stress your GPU more than a stress test ( FurMark ) . Well no point in agruing I just said what I believed
