Alright looking to link two offices, about an hour or so away so no type of line run or wireless will work for me.

Going over an approx. 25-50mbps connection at each location to start, and upgrading later.

I need to be able to share and allow editing of files. There is some software that needs and can share database files over a network.

How do I create said network? or is it possible? I think VPN routers are my best bet, but I want to be sure there are not options I am missing.

Please help,

Thanks!

A VPN is probably your best bet, preferably hosted by each network’s router, although you could use separate devices if necessary, or even desktops/servers (as long as they’re running when you need the VPN).

From a performance perspective, it’s the upload speed of each network that’s more important, since ultimately this will limit the speed of the VPN connection!

If you only have limited needs, maybe only need to access one or two machines on each side, you could use a VPN “service”, such as LogMeIn Hamachi. This creates a third network the other two networks share in common. Very simple to install and configure. And no hardware to buy. By default it’s peer-to-peer, although a gateway configuration is also possible.
