I have been wondering how to successfully overclock my 4170. I bought a Cooler Master 212 EVO and installed it. I have been trying to overclock but every time I try on Prime95 I get a variety of errors ( illegal sumeout or hardware failure). I maxed out at 65C at 4600mhz (default 4200) I am fairly new to overclocking and would like some help on this matter. My full build: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/I5o

This is a fairly good guide. You'll have a different BIOS, so you may have to search a bit different, but the same setting should be there. Also, I would stick to multiplier overclocking (not FSB) only, just to be easier overall - especially on your motherboard. That said, like kristianAA said, you'll want to take it easy with that motherboard. I would try to see how high you can overclock on your standard voltages first, and I don't think I would push beyond that.

I'm eager to see how well you can do. I have an FX-4170 as well, but my cooling solution is an Enermax ETS-T40-TB - the EVO's direct competitor. Let the show-down begin!
