So I'm considering possibly getting another 7970 for crossfire and watercooling them. The only problem is that I can't find a definite answer if a full cover waterblock is supported. I have looked at
http://www.swiftech.com/komodo-hd7900.aspx#tab3 and saw that the Vapor-X 100351VXSR model is not supported, the model that I have, the 100351SR (Dual X, not Vapor-x), is not even on the list, but the 100352SR is. Is the Vapor-X PCB the same as the Dual-X PCB but with better cooling? And finally, is watercooling one (or two) graphics cards even worth the ~$300 or would it be best to stick with air?

Skip the hassle of having to find a specific waterblock when you could just use air. It's alot more hassle free imo, and you can create nice pressures according to your preference. We all love that positive pressure air cooling

Let us know what your case and mobo are (spacing on mobo for slots). I had a big issue with heat with 7970's crossfired but a case upgrade (HAF X and its 230mm GPU Duct) pretty much eliminated any dual card heat eating.

In mid tower case on a standard ATX board my secondary 7970 was shooting hot air right up into the primary, so the secondary would stay around 50-55c under load and the primary could get up to 80c with the fans absolutely maxed (sapphire). With the HAF-X's giant GPU fan blowing onto both cards the primary would stay about 45-50c as would the secondary. Didn't have this problem with 2x 7870's as they ran much cooler with a very decent OC.

Right now I have an NZXT Guardian 921 RB and an Asus m5a97, though I would likely upgrade either to an Asus Crosshair V or an Asus 990fx Sabertooth and a Corsair 750d.

Sorry for the delay, I've used the Crosshair V and I am currently using the sabertooth, both have very good spacing between slots (good 2 inches between 7970's) and with the 750d's 2 fans in front pushing directly over the cards you probably wouldn't see much issue with heat from one being eaten by the other, but that depends on the quality of fans you would put in the front.

For the most part I would say you could save the hassle of a water block and run with case fans assuming you arent going for any OC records on the GPU's.

For reference, I had both my 7970's OC'd by about +120mhz on both ends and I never seen the heat of either one get above 65c, that is of course after the case change.

Okay, thanks. I guess that I will just use my 7970 on air for now.
