I have a gaming rig with an i5 2500 non K and a Radeon HD 6870.

What is a good GPU to upgrade to?

Budget is between $300 and $400.

For $400 bucks, you cannot beat a R9 290. Next month the custom cooler versions are coming out. Get one. You can update your CPU later. I hear you can flash them and unlock the cores and make it a R9 290X. That's stupid amazing, $400 for post Titan performance.
