Same price - FX-8350 or FX-9370?

What would you get if it were the same price?

I'm in the process of building a new PC and have been planning on getting an FX-8350. If I hurry I can get an FX-9370 for $9 more. My plan was to overclock the FX-8350 but have never overclocked before, I'm planning to at least do it enough to get my ram speeds up to what they are rated for (2133). I understand the FX-9370 is just an overclocked FX-8350. So I'm thinking, would it be easier to just get the FX-9370 then to try my hand at overclocking, and with the FX-9370 would my ram work at its rated speeds with out having to overclock. Or is it better to get the FX-8350 and overclock it, like would it be more efficient or is it better in anyway? Is there anything bad I should know about FX-9370? Like I said price is pretty much the same, what would you do, and why?

thanks for any insights you can give me.

Here is my proposed new rig:

-XFX Pro 850W Black Edition Full Modular 80+ Gold (Already have)
-Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
-FX-8350???
-Corsair H80i
-G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory (Already have)
-Asus Radeon R9 270X 2GB Video Card (maybe add more in a couple of years)

Solution
Sorry my oversight helping many other op here at the moment since I am a AMD person If for only 9 bucks I would jump on that given it comes with good cooling or if I had good water set up... qUADDRO while we are on the topic what is the best 2 nd best and 3 rd best 990fx boards this is my needs in the future after the first of the year for a build before I jump ship and move to a 4670 k from intel ? any thoughts????

Drop the fx 8350 and 9370 as they are both factory overclocked 8320's. Personally I would get the 8320 then overclock it and with the extra money invest in the r9 280/280x, then you would have pretty beastly rig.

Or if that is too expensive get a gtx 760.

Hmmmm the 8320 is a good cpu but the 9370 is probably hand picked to do the said speed also if you choose the be damn sure your board can handle the extra wattage I have a fx board with a 6100 and it cant handle more then 125 watts this be knowing make sure your board will accept the 9370 and for 9 bucks why not for shits and giggles but make sure it comes with water cooling or you have that already because it wont boot with out it..... on AIR!

He has Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0..
One of the best 990FX available in the market..

This board can handle highest tier of amd CPU, fx 9590 in overclocked condition..:D

Thanks for the input. I didn't think about getting the 8320 to overclock and then getting the R9-280X I will look into that. If I went with the 9370 I would be upgrading to the R9-280X or R9-290X in the future when it drops in price or when I need the extra gpu power. Can the R9-270X be CrossFired with the R9-290X with the sabertooth for future purposes?

Also what kind of temps do you think I should get with the FX-9370 and the Hydro Series H80i closed loop system?

no..R9 270x cannot crossfiring with R9 290X..
you only crossfire same card with the same architecture..
for example R9 290x with R9 290..

Get H100i..
That processor is really hot..You'll need best cooler available.
With h100i, you can overclock it more, to gain more juice from your processor..and touch 5GHz limit..

Ok, thanks for that. I decided on the H80i because I saw a benchmark between the two and I thought there wasn't much improvement between the H80i and H100i. Am I wrong? Also my case doesn't have two 120mm fan locations in the back, so the H100i wont fit.

For the FX-9370, If I dont like the high heat/watts, can I under clock it to the same as FX-8350 and have it be as if it were an FX-8350 and get rid of what ever problems that might arise? Please let me know if anyone as anymore insights on the FX-9370 that I should know about.

almost 10'c difference in max oc scenario between h100i and h80i..

and 5'c for moderate overclocking..

Don't worry, h80i will do the job to keep your processor cool at the fx9370 stock clock.
but, if you want to overclock more to squeeze all of performance, for example, touch 5GHz limit, you'll need h100i.

Of course you can down clock it..to reduce temp and power usage..
but..
you'll buy one of the fastest processor in the AMD line up..
So, what's the point to make it slower..?

H80i is a good choice

Quaddro, thanks for showing those benchmarks.

CTurbo, that is where my hesitation comes in at. Couldn't I overclock the 8350 and potentially use less power, and maybe even keep the temps lower than the 9370 when overclocking? To be honest 4GHz is probably plenty fast enough for me, I just had a hard time ignoring the price tag of the 9370. I'm also worried about getting a flaky CPU, I know the 8350 is a really good one, but haven't seen much on the 9370 except people telling people to get the 8350 instead.

Heres whats to think about! You get the 8320 it clock as fast if not faster then the 8350 air cooled sure less money . You get the 8350 and overclock it even faster air cooler or water a little more money.
The you got the 9370 which isn't much faster then the 8350 it needs water cooling period so if it don't come with that then you have to purchase that as well make sure your board can handle a 200 watt plus cpu also remember you have to have a even better more powerful power supply so in the end the 9370 is going to cost more for everything ..

fx8350 4.4Ghz and fx9370 4.4Ghz will consume same power, generate same heat, because both of that has same architecture and run in the same speed..

Beside cherry picked wafer and best bining of fx9xxx, if we compare with fx8xxx..i think there are slightly different material between fx8 series and fx9 series..
because fx8 class designed for 125watt tdp, and fx9 class designed for 220watt tdp...
Well, that's just my opinion..never mind..:D

Also, not all fx8350 can reach 4.7Ghz (fx9370 turbo boost)..

And the bottom line is, both of series just $9 difference..

Yep not every chip will oc like some of the reviews ect but its a safe bet you will pay less with a 8320 or the 8350 and still enjoy near the speeds of the 9370 .. So the 8350 is 4 ghz 4.2 turbo ok the 9370 is a mire 500 MHz faster factor in water cooling factor in a board that will handle the massive wattage factor in power supply to handle the extra wattage. I remember the old barton days AMD BARTON CORE ... I had a barton 2500 that was clock at like 1.8 ghz when I overclocked it I was able to get it to over 2.5 Ghz on air stable those where the days...
