I have problems with my display adapter, It sometimes just doesn't work and the monitor is off. Windows 7 still starts and loads everything. Then I have to wait until it's fully loaded and that takes about 4-5 minutes and only then can I switch the computer off. If I switch off when It's loading the system there maybe problems later, so I don't want to do that.

Is the any way to pause the boot-up process automatically so that I can investigate whether the display is working this time before it starts windows.

No.

However, you could just press the DEL key and boot to the motherboard BIOS instead. If you can't see the screen, just keep hitting it every second after starting.

It sounds like you need a new adapter, or better yet a video card with the proper output.

Maybe I need a new video card or motherboards pci-e interface doesn't work properly althoug my spare video card works fine but it's just some cheap low-end card.

Why do you need an adapter anyway?

Do you only have Displayport for your monitor and no Displayport video output?
