What GPU would you choose?

Solution
There are PROS and CONS to both choices.

R9-290X:
- more powerful (be warned against reference cooler performance drop)
- Mantle (not many games yet; BF4 soon)

GTX770:
- better games bundle
- PhysX
- G-Sync support (for newer monitors in 2014)
- Shadowplay

Those are my highlights.

You can weight the pros and cons about, keeping in mind there isn't a good R9-290 with custom cooler yet. If you can stretch to the EVGA GTX780 3GB with ACX cooler (967MHz base model) at $500 it's my current favorite high-end card.

G-Sync:
Really amazing tech. With a supported monitor it mostly eliminates LAG, STUTTER and SCREEN TEARING all at the same time. It makes games look better with a lower-end card too so that can easily offset the 290's increased...

OK, but I want it to be future proof ( at least 4 years), dont you think 4GB will be needed in a few years?

Solution
The stock R9 290 cooler is, without any shadow of a doubt the biggest mistake I've seen in PC hardware in a long time-how on Earth a multinational company made such a suicidal decision is beyond me. Updated drivers reduce the performance problems but add even more noise, AMD really shot themselves in the leg over this one!
Mantle uptake remains to be seen. I'm not holding my breath.

Those highlights are, at best, of dubious value.
Better games bundle is only handy if you want those games, the codes are cheap enough on E-bay anyway.
Few games support PhysX and it can have a negative impact on frame rate on even powerful single card systems.
G-Sync is not available yet, and unless someone comes up with an add on board or adaptor you'll have to get a new monitor to use it.
Shadowplay-Who cares?

I've suffered my fair share of loud coolers in the past and even with headphones on the current R9 290 is too loud, unless you're prepared to wait for improved products to come out or sacrifice the warranty by adding an aftermarket cooler yourself I'll recommend the Nvidia option.
