GTX 680 SLI vs GTX 780 vs GTX 780 Ti

Solution
i personally had issues with my 670 2gb with ultra modded skyrim so i upgraded/downgraded(depending on who you ask) to a 7950 3gb and the extra vram solved all my skyrim issues and fps losses. to me… the 4gb models of the nvidia cards are very much worth it in sli. sli 680s are a force to be reckoned with. but with that much power id be weary about games taking full advantage of above 2gb vram on 1440/1600p monitors. i would say just get a 780.
nvidia sli is no risk... amd different story. if you have the power supply and motherboard to handle sli.... two 680s will be considerably faster than any single gpu card. my only worry is if your stuck at the crappy 2gb vram versions of those keplar cards... it may not be worth while as a gpu setup like that used for maxed out 1440p/triple monitor gaming which will definitely use more than 2gb vram and well known fps issues start to arise when vram hits a wall and is offloaded onto the system memory.

I am having this same dilemma!? I am upgrading my monitor to a 30" IPS 2560x1600 and am currently running a single EVGA GTX 680 2GB. I know from benchmarks I've seen that this single card may have problems pushing acceptable frame rates at 1600p (single monitor) and/or running out of VRAM in current or near future games due to its 2048 MB memory capacity. Would I be better off buying another EVGA GTX 680 2GB and running those in SLI at 1600p, or selling it and putting that money towards purchasing a 780 Ti single card solution (which I realize will not perform as well as the 680's in SLI) but will offer me the ability to add another 780 Ti down the line if need be and give me 3GB VRAM instead of 2GB. Is the increase in ram and stability of moving from two cards to one worth the price premium in terms of gained gaming performance?

I have 680 sli 2gb version with msi coolers, performance is very good, but they are not so quiet. From what benchmarkers say about the 780ti it is very quiet. I would think I would be even happier with a 780ti in my build. So get a 780ti !! That's my answer.
Im gonna keep my gpus for a while now, and wait for something stupidly fast from nvidia in 1 or 2 years : ) Id go with a stock cooler from nvidia or maybe evga next time for silence or xspc waterblocks, but I cant afford water.

I just built a new rig for BF4. I was going to sell my 680 card and buy a 780TI but I had a friend
tell me that I should wait for the end of 2014 around Christmas time, to get the 880 series as
it will be a much better single card. I ended up deciding to spend 300 on another used
680 card for SLI mode as my three screens really need the extra FPS to be able to play
and look really nice.

Here are the stats for my new build:

Corsair 650D case
Intel i7-4770K 3.5 OC'ed to 4.422
Asus Maximus VI Formula Motherboard
NVIDIA GTX 680 04g-p4-2686 4 gigs of mem
GSkill F3-2400C10D-16GTX CL 10-12-12-31 1.65V
Corsair H100i cpu water cooler
Corsair 1050 watt PSU
Intel 520 series 120 gb SSD
Kingston Hyper 120gb SSD
WB Velociraptor 70 gb HD 10,000 rpm
Seagate 2tb hybrid ssd/reg Hard drive
Sony DVD read/write 40 speed
Logitech YUY-95 illuminated keyboard
Corsair M-60 mouse
Razor Nostromo mini keyboard
Creative Labs 7.1 T7700 speaker system
Cyber Power 850 AVR voltage regulator and power backup
Three Dell 24" monitors
TYKE 73B - Triple Monitor Stand Free Standing Curved Arm
OS= Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit

So because I will have 4 megs of vram with the two cards, it should do really well.
I was very lucky to buy one at 288 plus shipping and insurance, as
most seem to want 400 bucks and over for their used cards.

I have so many questions about the fan setup of my H100i Corsair CPU cooler
and I was wondering if you have water cooled your rig at all and what parts and things...
Thanks

hate to burst your bubble.. however the GPU memory is concurrent...not consecutive... therfore..2 cards in sli are still 2gb..unless you have 2 4gb cards... then you get 4gb..just an FYI..I am also in the sli 680 conundrum..need the oomph for 3 monitors...just not sure if the 780 is worth the coins.

I have recently added another gtx 680 to my rig so now have 2 gtx 680s SLI, i7 4770K processor, 16gb corsair vengeance ddr3 ram and a cooler master 850w psu. In terms of performance the increase is significant- crysis 3 and assassins creed 4 frame rates almost doubled with settings maxed out. My rig is quite a bit noiser since going sli but not to the extent that it bothers me. I use an Antec 1200 gaming case. Incidently I got my 2nd gtx 680 from www.overclockers.co.uk for £250! My rig outperforms the same setup that uses a Nvidia Titan as opposed to the 2 gtx 68o sli in 3D Mark.

but at current prices you have to weigh the options.. two 680s on Craigslist can be had for $550... the 780ti at Fry's 5 miles from my house is $769.. for $200 I can buy a great SSD and still out perform the 780 until the arrival of the 800s..not that the latest and greatest isn't at the forefront.. just not in everybody's budget.. just my 2 cents.

if a single 780GTX or TI is on par or tad faster than my 2x 680GTX EVGA SuperClocked then go with the 780GTX and or TI and you can when price go's down $200 get a 2nd one but maybe looking at 1k+ for two. I paid $1016 for my two worth it. If you can always go newer card but its a lot cheaper for almost same performance 2 vs 1 too.

Pc setup
I7 3770 K all 4 core overclocked 3.5@4.5
32GB DDR3 PC1600 for stable overclocking Corsair Veng
SLI Evga 680GTX SuperClocked 1084/6210@1225/6330
Corsair GT & OCZ AG III SSD raids 120x2 60x2 for gaming SATA6 & SATA3 2tb external cache by a SSD
PS CoolerMaster 1250 Gold
Case corsair HAF-X super tower
Loghtech Gaming KB G510 with LCD
Razor Gaming mouse Deathadder
Razor Vespula mouse pad
Vg248QE 144 1ms
All my games run 19by1080p on max settings i
BF3 180+FPS max setting SP
Black ops 2, 8 man Deathmatch FFA server limit 201 FPS
COD Ghost max server limit 91
Far Cry all on max 60-85 SP
Max Payne 3 70-85 max out
Very hard to run games run super smooth mostly 70-90s most games I have 100+ or 150+

The 780 Ti is 40% slower than your 680's in SLI unfortunately. On higher resolutions, you're looking at the 780 Ti only being 20% slower, but again, still slower.

Everyone prefers a single efficient, cool and quiet graphics card for many reasons. You just have to ask yourself whether its worth paying more for less performance, but better efficiency and less time spent on tweaking game settings.

I didn't want to pay a ton of money for 20-40% less performance, so i just purchased a second 680. With proper cooling, MSI Afterburner and a few tweaks for game compatibility, everything will work great.
