I see most people have their builds with both on board but

can you use just SSD for storage/memory??

can you use just hard drive for storage /memory??

reason I'm asking these kind of questions is because I have many external drives I leave NOTHING that is unneeded on Desktop mem/storage. like music, vids,... ect so do I rly need both or a huge storage device for my desktop or just enough to run app an what I do

Yes you can have just 1 and it can be either SSD or HDD. You don't need more space that what you plan to use. Planning how much you need may be difficult since you dont know how much space new programs will need or even what new programs you will want. For static builds this isn't a problem. My HTPCs use only an SSD, one has one as small as 64gtb but still has almost 30gb free.

An SSD is just another drive. Very, very fast, but far more expensive per GB than an HDD.

Sure you can have only the SSD, if your storage needs don't exceed your wallet size.

Many people (myself included) have the SSD for applications and OS, and a large spinning drive for all that other stuff.
