Hello,

First post here. I am building a gaming PC. Here are the specs for it:

I am torn between the GTX 760 and Radeon HD 7970. At this time, I only plan to run a single monitor but intend in the near future to run multiple monitors either in Surround or Eyefinity configuration. I also intend to potentially move to multiple GPUs in SLI or Crossfire configuration to increase the life of my PC. I would like to get 5 years out of this PC (assuming memory and GPU add).

If it matters, I'll be playing the following games:
1. Call of Duty: Ghosts
2. Wildstar
3. Rocksmith 2014

I appreciate any ideas or help.

Even though the 7970 is slightly faster, with dual GPU, SLI is currently ahead of Crossfire in terms of stability and power efficiency. I'd say get a 760, but aim for a factory OC'd aftermarket one.

Thanks for the reply! How can I tell if one is factory overclocked?

I see what you're saying now. Sorry, I overlooked the link. The next question I have is how do I weed through all the different manufacturers of the GTX 760? Why choose MSI vs. PNY vs. Gigabyte? On top of that question, can I mix multiple manufacturers if I decide to go SLI later?

You should keep the same manufacturer for SLI because the clock rates will be different and they might have different power needs depending on the cooler... I'd say go with the Asus. I have several of their products, they work great, can OC if you want, and best of all, they are quiet.

I would suggest the 7970 since AMD Eyefinity is a bit better than Surround (IMO). You will also benefit from the 3GB of memory in the 7970 with multiple monitors. Crossfire has come quite a way in the past year that it's almost as good as SLI.

I would agree with anthonyorr that the 3GB vram on the 7970 will come in handy for multiple monitors. Some newer games are butting up against 2 GB vram using 1 monitor. So for future proofing the 7970 is the way to go.
