Got an old Dell Inspiron 560s from my girlfriends mom, she said it would never turn on, I got it to turn on after some tinkering but now it is completely losing power at random, shutting off, turning back on and after a random amount of time, back off again. One time I actually got it signed in, off, while messing around in the BIOS, off, while its on a loading screen, off. I have no clue what it is, please help!

I had a similar thing once, which turned out to be that the motherboard had been exposed to static at some point. As the previous poster says, its probably more hassle than its worth to fix it. It might be worth trying to boot with only one RAM module at a time in case they're causing the problem, (only because its so quick and easy to do, not because its very likely to solve the problem).

Hi,

from your description, I can say quite definitely that the Capacitors on the Motherboard must be bad. This usually happens if the unit has been un-used for a long time.

I would suggest you take it to some guy who repairs Laptop Motherboards. If you really don't need to get it working, I suggest you forget about it ;-)
