I have a AMD Fx6300 Black edition that runs at a speed of 3.8 GHz and turbo to 4.1 GHz. I have a gadget in windows 7 that gives me the clock speed, core temp etc. From what I understand is if you enable turbo in the bios it will overclock when under load if the temperature permits. I have enabled turbo with and without the cool n quiet enabled and yet it won't go over 3.8 GHz when under load. This is the mobo I have http://www.msi.com/product/mb/760GM-P23--FX-.html if that has anything to do with it. Thanks.

This sounds indicative of your CPU socket reading hot. As a failsafe the motherboard will signal super high temperatures to cause the cpu to throttle down and reduce heat. Many motherboards will have an option in the bios to disable this if you want to take the chance.

You could try and undervolt to the lowest voltage you are able to run stable at stock speeds.

Its a Gadget that runs off of core temp. I have core temp installed and I open it and then minimize it where it runs in the background. Core temp gives me identical readings as the gadget so its no a misreading.

I just ran a stress test and after 3 minutes of hovering at 40 degrees it instantly spiked to 255 degrees. (Which has to be a glitch?) and it never went over 3.8.

In your bios check and see if you have options enabled to lower the processor usage to say only 90%. If there is core options make sure all 6 cores are enabled. Also check your bios version, maybe you just need to update it, but do this last resort.

I went into the bios and found that under the turbo core option there are 2 options that say max turbo core frequency (which was on 4100) and turbo core frequency (which was on 3800). Both of the options were set to auto. I went in and changed the setting that said 3800 from auto to a multiplier of 20.5 to give me the 4100. I don't know what multiplier is but now I can get the 4.1 Ghz. I also have the cool n quiet setting on so that it goes down to 1400 mhz when not under use. Since I don't know what multiplier is, is this safe?

I appreciate the reply, I don't know exactly what im doing when it comes to modifying settings in the bios and since it runs fine Ill keep it where it's at for now.
