Which motherboard should I get for a gaming PC?

Hello everyone,

I'm building a gaming PC for the first time and need some help with selecting a motherboard. I've been doing some research but still have no idea on which motherboard to pick.

I have a budget of roughly £550 for the whole PC so I don't want to spend to much over £70 on the motherboard unless it has to be or can be justified. I'm planning to use the motherboard in conjunction with an Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz processor and a MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card. I don't plan on over clocking the motherboard.

Ideally I just want a cheap yet reliable motherboard that will work with the stated CPU and GPU (unless you have a reason why I should get a different CPU or GPU) that will be able to handle gaming and last several years. I would be very grateful for any help I can get.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, can you tell me why you'd recommend this motherboard please? As in what factors make this significantly better than a slightly cheaper motherboard?

ASRock is a reputable company as well is ASUS.
This board is one of the more feature packed H87 boards. You said no OCing so I chose not to pick the OCing Z87 chipset. Z87 is higher quality but more money also. If you could find some Z87 ASUS or ASRock boards in your price range that would be ideal.

okay, thank you. What's your opinion on MSI branded boards as well? Also could you please tell me the reasons behind not buying the cheapest motherboard that can handle the video card and processor? And what features you would look out for specifically for gaming (if there are any). As well as how long a motherboard usually lasts? or how long the Fatal1ty H87 would last?

Sorry about all the questions. There's lots of information available about the other components for a PC but I can only find limited information about motherboards.

Thanks again in advance.

Probably the best H87 board w/o all the over clocking abilities of the Z87s.

I was looking at these http://www.dabs.com/category/components-and-storage,motherboards-and-processors,motherboards/11143-492970000
Everyone will tell you to stay away from MSI low end boards, but I wouldn't be afraid if that meant the difference between a H87 and Z87, you can still have the OCing board and just not OC anything.

EDIT: The Z87 boards are just made better and have more features than the cheaper boards, the same way H87s are better than B85s.
Z87s should last longer than the other boards, etc.
