Hi I own a Seagate FreeAgent 500 GB 3.5-Inch USB 2.0 Hard Drive ST305004FDA1E1-RK

It was originally working before but one day it stopped connectin to my computer. Before it would turn on and off every once in a while because I had to buy a second power cord adapter because the first one was damaged. Now it turns on with no problems but does not connect to my computer at all in any device manager or my computer etc; however, it does turn on.

I took the hard drive appart and bought a sata to ide connector off ebay with the same results where the hard drive turns on but does not connect. I know its running because I can hear components inside working.

Is there anyway I can access the data on this Hard drive?

I think the drive is a SATA drive inside the caddy/case. Not an IDE/PATA drive. Did you tried to open the caddy and tried to connect the drive directly to the MB with DATA and POWER connectors ? If not then try that of course if its warranty is over, else the warranty may be void.

And try to look at the BIOS to see if the drive is there or not !

And yes those Blue an Orange ports are SATA ports.

I think I have tried to attach it to the different ports on my desktop with the same results. Not sure if they are for the purpose of external hard drive but the connections seem to fit it with no success. I own a Hp Compaq DC5850 Small Form Factor

I tried plugging in the data cables into the small orange and blue connections near the middle and the power came off the branching connections from the disk drive not sure if I was doing this right... Are there any other solutions to accessing this drive?
