Are you allowed to downgrade games?

I own a certain game (not minecraft), and I want to use a mod for it that requires a lower version. I would not use the mod online, it would just be for personal enjoyment. Am I allowed to use one of the many downloads around for a past version?

Oh okay now I understand. Basically you're asking if it's okay to download a game you already own via bittorrent so you can play the older version of it.

Well every Game publisher will tell you this is illegal, however that law is always over ruled by your countries law.

For example, I am swiss and here in Switzerland we can legally download torrents that contain copyrighted material, and it's not against the law, (the use of copy righted material again is another law) however uploading copyrighted material is against the law.

You would really need to know your own countries law.

That being said, downloading a game you already own, is not a big deal.

Well in general you can't downgrade a game. you would need to reinstall the game and patch it to the version of your choice.

However the way you ask, about "allowed" and only use a "mod" in single player for your own "enjoyment", in plain english this sounds like you play an MMO (with single player option) and want to use a cheat/hack which only works for an out dated version.
Know that most online games cannot be downgraded nor be patched to a certain version of your choice. They simply update all the way.
Also if it's a steam game, you risk getting VAC banned and have your entire Steam account flagged with a VAC ban, unable to ever play any other online Steam game that uses VAC.

What's the game you're looking into? Sounds like Dungeon Defenders or something similar.

This is one thing I do not like about Steam/Origin is the auto updates for games that I want to use trainers on. I have not seen just the updates available to DL, only coming through Origin. In situations like this I personally see no harm in downloading a version that will let me play the game how I wish, but the law is another thing.

If it requires v1.0 you should be able to install the game without being online (if it is a retail/disc purchase), then block origin in windows firewall to not allow the game to update any further. Of course you will have to remove the block if you wish to play other Origin games online, and risk NFSMW updating to 1.5 or 1.6. You could also reach out to the mod creator and see if they are working on getting it to function on newer versions of the game.
