Okay so, i just bought an SSD and i was wondering if i make it my boot drive does it only speed up the boot time or does it speed up the whole computer in general. Because i have a bunch of files and often takes a while to say load programs i want to uninstall or search for files. Since they are on my other drive would the SSD have an affect on them? Will the SSD speed the computer up?

If the operating system is on it, it operates faster. The whole computer will run faster. Saving, loading, scanning, opening, closing, searching, everything...
It also uses way less energy/power. I highly recommend using ssds. I have 3 PCs and I use ssds for windows for all 3. They're great for gaming too. Games will save and load instantly. It will NOT increase fps though.
anything that does read/write will benefit from the SSD. of course assuming the file is in there.
Loading files, applications, will be faster, if you use photoshop it will also load faster.

but if in gaming, games will load faster, but not fps. just to be clear

Programs that are located on a different drive will not have any noticeable improvement in performance as they are not using the SSD.

I'm well aware this is an old topic but I was wondering if that is correct (what CTurbo said). It seems like there is plenty of off and on with this topic from multiple people on multiple sites. Some say it only affects what is installed/stored on the SSD, and then you have few people who say that if your OS is on the SSD that it improves time for file searches, using windows explorer.exe, windows services will be faster, loading thumbnails and pictures (even if they're saved on an HDD) will load faster.

I guess I'm just looking for a confirmation.
