After destroyed by static??

So my friend and I are building a system, and before I got to his house he put the motherboard on the anti-static bag. I have been told that this will probably break the board through static electricity, and he has carpet in his house.
So we built the system, everything is running and all the fans are spinning, but we're not getting a splash screen. I am assuming that this is because of static electricity damage, but all the fans and the graphics card are running.
Is the problem with the motherboard or is it elsewhere in the system?

It could be the graphics card not being connected to the screen through the correct port. My 770 needs to be plugged into the first DVI slot or it won't display. As far as I know, if your fans are spinning and components working the mobo should be fine.

If this was a new motherboard (no residue energy in its circuits), taken out of the bag and placed on it, it is highly unlikely it got damaged.

I suspect that this is rather a compatibility problem. Please list all your components (make and exact model).

MSI Radeon R9 270x (will find out model number)
MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 (mobo)
AMD Athlon x4750k
8 GB Corsair Vengeance in 2 dimms (will find out model number)

That's something I haven't considered. My friend is getting a monitor soon, we were using a TV via HDMI, and it wasn't getting any signal... So maybe if we plug the monitor in via DVI it might work better...

To me it looks like compatibility problem between motherboard and new R9 series. I recommend updating BIOS to the newest version. However to do that, you need either older graphics card or CPU with integrated video. Make sure to read guidelines on how to update to version > 2.0, on MSI website.

Try it with normal monitor with DVI first.

That could definitely be a problem, but I will try DVI before worrying too much. If I still can't I can ask around, maybe someone I know has a graphics card I can borrow...

So we have tried with a dvi port on a monitor and still no luck. We are just about to head to a computer fix-it shop, because this build has dragged a while. Hopefully they will be able to diagnose and fix the problem. Thanks for your help everyone!

UPDATE: got at PC so took it apart, there was a crack in the CPU bracket that was only visible if you looked from the side with the arm closed. Will need to get a replacement mobo. Wish I had checked more thoroughly!
