I haven't found answers to my questions yet, so here goes. Please answer as many questions as possible as this will most likely help others as well.

The Goal:

Game - Battlefield 4 - solely
Resolution - 5760x1080
Quality - High, but not necessarily ULTRA settings. (AA is a variable option based on your recommendations).
FPS - close to 60 as possible
Budget - $600-800
Platform - either AMD or Nvidia

My current setup:

i7 2600
8GB generic RAM
850 Corsair HX
EVGA 570 Superclocked

What I'm seeking:

Please give me some options for my goal. For example, "You need two 290X in Crossfire for Ultra w/ AA, but only two 280X in Crossfire for High no AA." (Also give Nvidia options as well please and the "why?")

I've never done Crossfire/SLI before, but I can achieve better results with a dual-GPU solution than a single beast.

Also, what is the current issue with the 280X, 290, and 290X overheating? Is it a big issue, or is it easily overcome?

Would going Nvidia via 760, 770 or 780 be better now the prices have dropped?

Lastly, how much of a difference would it be to go to a 4770k overclocked?

Thanks in advance...

Ryan

Since the 280x still has frame pacing issues in crossfire with triple monitor resolution the best bang for your buck would be crossfire R9 290. May want to wait and see if they come out with better coolers for it but even without it should give you the best performance at $800

What is the real down-to-earth differences between the 290X and 290?

The 290x is slightly faster, it has more horsepower so for higher resolutions it should perform better. The 290x and 290 are so close in my opinion that for the money the 290 is just the smarter buy. But if you need the absolute best performance the 290x will outperform the 290.

If your sole purpose is BF4, from what I have seen....the 7990 pretty much owns the game above all others.
It is a very quirky card, can f=run hot and loud.... But it is a beat playing BF4.

Might as well get two 280x for cheaper and should get better performance if you have good airflow in your case. But once again the 7990 and AMD crossfire will experience micro stutter and dropped frames issues.

Chumly,

But in the specs for his system in that video it says 760 SLI (x2)... is that right?

Here is the quote from youtube in the description.

Solid 60FPS+

Resolution: 5760x1080
All Ultra Settings
nVidia Surround/Tri-Monitor

i7-2600K @ 4.4GHz
GeForce GTX 760 2GB SLi (x2)
24GB Corsair Dominator RAM
750W Antec PSU
MSI MPOWER Z77 Mainboard
Asus VS248H LCD Monitors (x3)

Two 280X cards should push 5760X1080 in Ultra settings right? I can't imagine it wouldn't with the 290X al.....most doing it single-handedly.

Also, are there clipping issues with the 280X?

Lastly, does the 280X have the sweet audio that the 290X has? Are there any reasons NOT to do a 280X?

Thanks,

Ryan

Oh, and one more thing... would the upgrade to a 4770K CPU help FPS that much over my 2600 (non-overclocked)?

No, not a lot more. Only a few fps. I personally got 2x R9 290 and I'am very happy. I have had no issues with frame pacing at 5760x1080p. I would wait for R9 290 crossfire non reference or buy R9 290 crossfire reference and buy arctic cooler xtreme iii later.
