Hello everyone,

I have recently done some upgrades on my rig and I was wondering if my PSU is sufficient (in stock or OC)

System configuration:
- Asus CROSSHAIR V FORMULA-Z
- AMD FX X8 8350, 4000MHz with Noctua NH-D14
- Asus AMD Radeon R9 280X, 3072MB, GDDR5, 384bit DC2 TOP
- For games: SSD Intel 530 Series, 2.5" 240GB
- For OS: SSD Kingston HyperX 3K 2.5, 120GB,
- General files: 2xHDD Western Digital Caviar Green Power 500GB, 32MB RAID0
- 4xKingston 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9

My current power supply is: Corsair CMPSU-650TX V2 650W, ATX2.3

What I got from reviews and tests, that the processor at peak can eat 160W while the card 360W, which would give a total of 520W. From what little I know that seems to be a bit too close to the 650W and I didn't account for the other components.

My questions are:
Is this PSU sufficient to run this system safely at stock frequencies?
Is this PSU enough to do some OC?
In the future I plan on adding another 280x for crossfire, will the Super Flower Golden King, 1000W, ATX 2.2, PFC Activ be enough for such a system or do you have any other recommendations, I have a 200eur budget for the psu but i could go up to 250 or 300 if absolutely necessary.

BR,

Solution
Per AMD they recommend a power supply with at least 550watts minimum power for the entire system, with a minimum of 30Amps on the +12V rail for a system running a single R9-280X. Your 650 (with 54amps on the 12v) is powerful enough to run your system as it is and have a little headroom for a little OC.
However, if you go to crossfire, you will not have enough power, nor will you have enough connectors as each card requires 1x6pin and 1x8pin and the TX650 only has two.
That SuperFlower would be an Excellent choice for future-proofing and Crossfire.
BTW, you state you have your General Files on two HDDs in a RAID 0 set-up: Any particular reason for RAID 0? If you have photos, music, private data etc. on that array, and one HDD goes bad...

That's a nice rig: I am running a slightly older and slower 8120 and am impressed with its performance. Your SSD's must make it speedy-indeed. If you don't immediately upgrade your PSU, you can gain a little more speed and help your SSD's by increasing your RAM to 8 or better yet 16GB.
Hope all of this helps. Thanks for posting.

Thank you very much. I will go with the flower PSU then. I will be back if I have problems with the OC :D

You're very welcome. Here a link to JohnnyGuru's site with his report on that PSU. A good read if you haven't read it before.
