I've been looking to upgrade my GTX 660 Ti to a new 780 and I have run into an issue with power. My PSU clearly has the recommended wattage but I'm concerned it doesn't have the requirements for the minimum of 42 amps on the 12V rail. Here is my PSU, can anyone help me out? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438007

Heres also the exact card I'll be looking to get:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130916

Solution
You're right the PSU doesn't have the 42 AMPS. Usually what you'd do i this case is plug one of the 2 GPU power connectors into 1 rail, and another into the other. Even doing that with this PSU brings you 2 Amps short. Surprising that this PSU has so many rails for only being 750W :(

The good news is though it should work anyway, since manufacturers typically overrate things like this as part of their "cover my ass" policy. Just don't overclock it :) If it's not obvious which rails you're plugging the GPU power into, check the documentation for the PSU. It should be clearly marked there, and make sure the GPU has it's own 2 rails and everything else is drawing from the other 2 rails.

It's listed on the req. specs, but i just looked and that 42A assumes a single-rail PSU supplying the entire system...heh. They really should be more clear about these things.

Anyway, yeah, being rated at 250W is only 21Amps. That PSU will be fine.

Just looking at the layout of the modular plugs, it seems they spread the rails out in a logical fashion. It looks like you have two different rails for video card power and two different rails for the rest of the system.

I can't imagine they would have 4 PCIe connections on a single 20A rail.
