Will This CPU Work With My Motherboard

My motherboard is a socket AM3 (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A78LTM_LE/). The processor I'm interested in upgrading to is also a socket AM3 (http://www.microcad.ca/products/details/AMD-Phenom-II-X4-850-95w-socket-AM3-Cache-2MB-3300MHz-2000321198).

Will this processor (or any like it) work with this motherboard? Will *any* AM3 processor work with *any* AM3 motherboard (reglardless of whether it's a 955 or an 850, its wattage, its cache, or how many cores it has)?

Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere on this forum (I couldn't find my question upon a quick search).

Thank you.

Yes. Make sure you have at least BIOS version 0801 installed before upgrading the processor or you may have POST issues.

Not every AM3 processor will work with every AM3 motherboard. You need to check the motherboard CPU support documentation to know for sure. Sometimes there are multiple revisions of the same model of motherboards that will add or update features, and support newer CPUs.

Usually wattage is all that will limit the compatability of an AM3 CPU with an AM3 socket. There are quite a few 95w only boards out there that simply won't work with the higher wattage CPU's. Other than that, they should all work (though there may also be bios updates that need to happen if it's an older AM3 board and a newer (relatively) CPU like a Thuban.
