Hey, I just recently built my own rig. I'm using the ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2 and I'm very happy so far. I overclocked my FX8350 to 4.8ghz on my water cooling using the FSB instead of the multiplier. So my problem is the USB. Couple days ago, I had a little Windows bubble pop-up that said "Power Surge: One of your USB devices are drawing too much power" or something along those lines. The problem is, I use a headset with a USB reciever+microphone reciever that basically makes a link from my headset to the reciever with a 3.5mm jack for audio only. When I plug the USB dongle and 3.5mm cable to my PC, it works fine but I hear this constant buzzing noise in the background. When I try the 3.5mm in my PC and the USB dongle to a powered hub connected to my PC, it works fine again but still has that buzzing noise(only slightly quieter) When I have the 3.5mm in my PC and the USB dongle into a USB wall plug, it works fine with no buzzing, but the mic doesnt work because the reciever doubles as a USB mic, picking up the signal from my headset mic. After some research, I believe that it might be a USB power issue or it might be from my CPU overclock slightly bringing up the Hyper-Transport Link and the Northbridge. Sorry for the long post, this buzzing is just really driving me crazy! :fou:

Consider the following (and I am just throwing this out for you to check out). USB sound (to your headphones) generally does not use the sound card/sound chip on the motherboard for sound production (Well, it might use the sound chip on the board, but not a discrete card). The 3.5 connector will be using the sound chip directly through the audio jack to transmit your voice. The two are probably in conflict.
The solution will be to use one or the other: A USB headset and microphone so that you are using only the usb circuit or plug both into the appropriate audio jacks.
Try this first before you go trouble shooting all the other possibilities
