Today I finished building my first computer, but it won't start up, and I can't figure out why. The parts I used are:
-Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics
-ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
-Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
-G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL
-CORSAIR CXM series CX600M 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
-2 year old fans from my brother's previous build
-Cooler Master case from my brother's previous build
Does anyone have any advice on how to get my computer to start? I have already checked http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

Solution
9/10 you need to clear your CMOS on your motherboard. Your motherboard manual should tell you how to clear your CMOS. Also, you may have to do it a few times as many people do it incorrectly the first time.

Essentially these are the steps:
1) Turn off computer and unplug power
2) Locate CMOS jumper pins
3) Move jumper pin to cover appropriate pins
4) Plug computer back on
5) Power on
6) System will either NOT power on or it will power on BUT you won't see anything except a black screen.
7) Let it run for about 5 seconds.
8) Force power off (turning off PSU or holding power button)
9) Unplug power cable
10) Move CMOS jumper pin back to original position
11) Plug in power and turn on system

Some more info that could help identify your problem would be telling us exactly what happens when you push the power button to turn it on. Does the screen light up? Any lights on the computer itself come on? Any fans begin to spin, even if for just a second?

If it does try to start, how far does it get before it shuts down? Can you make it to BIOS?
