Problem with my SLi setup

Hi,

I've been trying to setup 2 GTX 570 in SLi and it has been a nightmare so far.

Tried both cards separately and they worked wonderfully (Windows was recognizing them and the monitor would start up). I then plugged both cards and now Windows is only detecting one of them (note that I didn't set up the bridge between both cards yet).

Seems like both cards are working on their own but not when they're both connected. I've ran Speccy and only one of them is detected. Furthermore, it shows that the PCI slot in which one of my card is using has the ''available'' status.

I'm quitte puzzled since the card was working on its own in this particular slot right before I plug the other one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Wow. You are burning though these. Make sure the bridge is clean and there are no scratched on the GPU gold fingers that the bridge links to.

If all is clean and no scratched there, you would need to try a new sli bridge. IT may have been damaged in the move.

I'll be completely honest with you; I've bought the computer from a friend and the SLi was working perfectly fine when I went to his place. Living in another city, I thought maybe it could of been damaged by Canada Post so I've tried the following:
Each card separately
Uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers
tried each slot

Nothing happens when I install the bridge, only one card is being detected by Windows, Speccy or the Nvidia Control Panel.

If both cards are working AND both SLOTS are working, you may want to try:

1. Clean W7 install.
2. Unplug the power and take out the mobo battery, wait about 1 min, then put the battery in, plug it in, and turn it on.
3. Make sure the bridge is on right. If it was shipped it may have come lose.

1. I'll definitely have to do this during Christmas time although my friend did a clean install before shipping it here and it was working.
2. Gotcha
3. Just did and Windows still do not recognize the card plugged in the 3rd PCI slot.

When you tried each card individually, did you also test the pci-e power cables. You would have like 4 of them to run 2 cards. Did you also check that all 4 are working.

Be sure to have the bridge on when you power up the pc and enable SLI in the nvidia control panel.

After all of that is done, you may want to roll back your drivers for the gpus. If it was running fine on and old set of drivers you may want to know what version it was and test it.

1. Yes, they're working fine.

2. Can't enable the SLi because only one card is detected.

3. Wish I knew what were the drivers tbh, I could always ask my friend.

Just tried that, didn't work. Linked or not, it won't detect both cards at once.

It's really weird. It's like Windows doesn't want to acknowledge the presence of both cards. If I plug my monitor in the second GPU it just goes to black. Strange since my monitor was working just fine on this particular GPU went it was alone.

Sorry mate :3 I appreciated the help a lot!

I have a question though, should Windows be detecting both GPU even if they're not bridged? Because right now only my main GPU is being detected.

Yes and no. If you BIOS options have settings that will only allow for one PCI lane to be used then it may not pick it up or you have a driver issue.

In your device manger, check the option to show hidden devices, when both are plugged in and bridge is on. Then have it scan for changes. You may find something there.

Thanks for the heads up.

Tried what you said in the device manager. Nothing appeared.

Well I am out of gas on this one. Make sure to try out other gpu drivers, insure that all windows updates are done, and try a new sli bridge. You can also try to open a problem ticket/RMA for your mobo. At times they can help you dig into bios and mobo driver updates. Sometimes after a new install a driver on your mobo is missed.

Good luck. If I had to bet tho, it would be the sli bridge or driver/bios problem.
