I have a new Desktop with 16GB Ram and at random my system spikes to 100% of system memory in use.
Not cached, In use and says 507MB is available

2 Photo's

Diagram of memory: http://imgur.com/tKTbBCd,VgcQJQY#0
Process's in - sorted to most memory: http://imgur.com/tKTbBCd,VgcQJQY#1

System Specs
I5 4670K
GTX 770 in SLI
16GB Corsair Dominator platinum
Windows 8.1 64bit
1 X Seagate 1TB SSHD 64Mb cache with 8Gb flash nand
507GB available of 958GB

In the process when this happens my Desktop gets super laggy and i can hardly move my mouse.
and then my system crash's to a black screen.
I turn my desktop off when im not using it i never leave it on or press sleep i always shut down when i goto sleep or done playing a game.

This happens at random but it does this quite often now and its very annoying.

Problem :

Ram spikes to 100% in use.

Solution
Try your security scans in safe mode if you haven't done that - often, malware will suppress scans. Running in safe mode will (should) prevent malware from loading and suppressing a scan

There could be a couple of solutions for this..

Attempt to run a malware/spyware scan. Something can secretly be running in the BG that wont show in the processes.

Unsure on what virus protection you have, make sure there isnt a silent virus scan running in the background (Screw you Norton)

I am unsure of the command to uncheck your start up programs to only have your machine necessities to start up the PC, nothing else. AKA on Win7 Start Run -> Msconfig

You never mentioned how much HD space you have?

I have Webroot AntiVirus Suit on this computer,
My previous computer a laptop was so slow from Norton 360 i gave up on Norton.

1 X Seagate 1TB SSHD 5400RPM 64Mb cache with 8Gb flash nand
507GB available of 958GB

I ran a full system scan which took about 3 hours to run and it came back to nothing detected or found.
I did a disc optimization and cleaned out 13GB - That probably space left of from my video editing.
Ran a Smart scan only took 2 min 38secs scans for root kits and so on and it didnt detect anything.

Last time the ram spiked to 100% in use i did a smart scan -came back with nothing- and the system got super laggy couldn't even move the mouse lag so i powered it down and back up fixed but for some reason it spikes most of the time now.

Webroot smart scan - scans all active process's i believe -

When you open your browser, is there anything suspicious running as an add-on?

Internet Explorer?
Any other browser?
I am unsure what it says in Win8 but check the Add/Remove Programs and is there any programs installed you are unfamiliar with?

I want to get this sorted out because in a week or two im going to install my resivor and tubing and its going to be annoying to take the cooler off to take the ram out.
Not that it'll be no room for the ram but im having a large resivor and 2 gpu's and cpu liquid cooled.

Well spare RAM would help.. to see if its a RAM issue, you need to swap parts out to see what can possibly make this issue occur. If its not software based, you need to look at your RAM. I believe at this point nothing can be ruled out since we dont have any direction to go in.

If you have spare RAM as I said before.. swap them out and see if the issue still occurs.

AND another possibility is to move the RAM to different DIMM slots if you havent had all of them filled in already..

Lastly, try to only have 1 RAM stick in at once and see if the issue occurs.

Webroot runs in the background but it only uses 0.01% of cpu and like 10mb ram.
So much lighter then norton,
Norton " Oh your going to play a game? To bad you cant now im doing a weekly scan using up 4GB ram and 75% CPU processing power." lol
