Old Antec PSU was getting noisy and I wanted to replace it. Got a new OCZ 600 watt. Shutdown system, removed old PSU, routed cables and re-attached the new one. Powered up and got nothing. The PSU passed the paper clip test. Removed all cables but the 24 and 8. Removed battery, reset CMOS and still nothing. I actually re-attached the old PSU and that didn't work but that didn't pass the paper clip test either. Ideas ?

I figured it out. The CPU has an fan that has an external speed control. I noticed that the control has become disconnected from it. I re-attached it and then it would boot. Obviously the Mobo has a fail-safe to not allow you to boot without a fan on the CPU.

Have to ask: do you have a 4 pin connector on your motherboard and didn't connect it? I don't know about the paper clip test, guessing you're just creating the loop to spin the power supply up. Almost every power supply that has "gone bad" I have worked on will spin up, but not provide all the voltages across all the outputs. Be SURE to pick up a power supply tester for about $15 like this

It has saved me countless hours. Did the old pc work fine before you replaced the power supply?

I have an 8 pin connector on the Mobo and I did connect it. And yes, the system worked fine before I replaced the PSU. It's kind of funny; I bought the new PSU @ MicroCenter yesterday. Too bad it's 40 miles away ... Maybe I'll take it all back and check it there before I leave the store ...

I exchanged the PSU and bought a PSU tester. I tested the old PSU and it appeared to be dead. I tested the new PSU and it appears to be working fine. I also replaced the battery on the Mobo. Plugged in the 8 & 24 pin cables and still got nothing .....
