Hello,

My mobo ( ASUS M4A89TD PRO) supports dual channel memory. It has 4 slots. I am currently using two color-coded slots for a total of 4gb of ram (2x2gb 1 x CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600).

I'd like to understand if it is proper for me to use the other 2 color-coded slots to add an additional 8gb of memory (CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMD8GX3M2A1600C9).

I believe the only differences between these two sets would be the size and the voltages. Can I mix use both sets on my mobo to obtain optimally working 12gb of ram?

Please advise and thank you!!! Sorry if this is perceived as a noobish question - I only do PC building/upgrade stuff like once every 3-5 years so I usually have to research such things.

i would use the 2x4 gig in the same channel to a total of 8 gig in dual also this is not a good idea to mix memory .
