Hello
these are the symptoms shown by a HP pavilion
* Vista is booting and while the little green bars is loading, BSoD flashes then pc reboots
* same thing with systems on other hdd,
* live keys may work a bit better, not always, and a crash can occur later, once ubuntu is launched
* in safe mode, drivers load until crcdisk.sys when crash occurs
* the hdd works well on other builts, that is the only way i could install windows on this hdd ( cause the installation can never end without crashing)

----------------------------------additional info-------------------
ram is tested ok
hdd is not perfect but its windows can be run on other builts
bios has been upgraded
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Would be great if someone could even bring a fresh idea. It seems i've tested them all
THX

-----------------config-------------------------------
hp pavilion a6212.fr (all original parts)
motherboard: MCP61CM-HM
hdd: seagate

That hard drive (seagate), the original one:
- works fine on a build, windows launches.
- get bsod on another one (at crcdisk.sys)
but i found a stange directory like $WINDOWS.~LS that makes me think the windows setup didnt run properly.
also i could mount the system partition in the Linux Disk Utility but couldnt check the filesystem, reason disk is busy.
so i decided to run hdd regenerator on that drive, to look for bad sectors.
i m kinda feeling there's something wrong with this disk but can't find what. The Western Digital Utility already couldn't run the test because of "too many bad sectors". even though i couldn't find them, plus SMART data seem ok.

in the other hand, i tested another drive (win vista working fine) with the HP build and i had the same kind of results.
BUT:
i could read the message on the bsod the first time i've boot "IRQ L NOT LESS OR EQUAL"
next boots, pc just crashes and reboot even without bsod.
in safe mode drivers launch until aswRvrt.sys which is not the same driver than on the original drive

conclusion: i might have 2 problems ?! one with the disk, and one with the mobo...

**and for your last question, seagate is the original drive. initial issue was random freeze/reboots. i formated the seagate. but never could reinstall windows back (on the HP) because it crashed before the setup completed. so i installed windows using another build.

This can really be a toss up.. do you have a repair disk for this PC?

You should possibly use the Vista Repair Disk and attempt to have Windows fix itself, especially that crcdisk.sys issue. If you have a proper Vista DVD(not Dell, HP, etc), boot from it, and do a Startup Repair.

As is the case with most computer/laptops these days, they do not come with the proper Vista Disk to do Repairs with; only Recovery Disks.

If yours falls into the above category, download the ISO file at the supplied link, and make a Bootable Disk from it.

Go into your Bios/Setup, or Boot Menu, at startup, and change the Boot Order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the Boot Order, then reboot with the disk in the Drive.

At startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, to go into Bios/Setup, or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert that Bootable Disk you have made in the Drive, and reboot.

You can do a Startup Repair, System Restore, etc with it.

Read all info at the website about creating and using it.

http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-di...

It makes a very good Repair Vista disk.
You can do a Startup Repair, System Restore, etc from it.
It is not a reinstall disk.

And the 32bit is what comes normally on a computer, unless 64bits requested.

Unfortunately I've already tried to execute system restore and startup repair from a Vista DVD and from vista restore CD
none of them could run properly.
startup repairs generate error "StartupRepairV2", with problem sig as "bad drivers", "wrpRepair". and system restore doesnt work much better.
so i tryed to run system restore, startup repair and windows installation from a live key instead of the DVD...
- startup repair generates "startuprepairV2" with pb sig as "corrupt registry" and "rollback registry
- system restore produce an error too, translated in english: "instruction at 0x73036477 is using memory address 0x00000002. Memory can't be in 'read' state"
-windows installation goes well until pc freezes. files are well copied, unzipped, pc reboots, starts configuring accounts, starts to install files and checks the configuration. that's the moment when it freeze (or crash in some way).

Ok i think i've found a solution:

I changed the CMOS battery

and everyting came back in order
Also the original problem which was random reboot/freeze is solved

ps the old battery still display more than 3V on the voltmeter

edit: the problem came back a day after, then once again has been solved and came back.

now the main issue i could isolate, is that the cpu seems anormally busy since
- the "Failed To Start - Recent Hardware / Software Change Might Be Cause" takes aprroximatively 15 sec to prompt,
- 5 sec to refresh,
- and windows takes 20 minutes to load.

then in taskmanager the cpu is full busy

So something keeps the cpu busy, early in the boot process, way before windows is fully loaded (so it's not just a windows process)
