Time to move up from the 6850?

I built this machine to run BF3 on the setup I had back then, which was a 1680x1050. Now, some things have changed. I run a 1920x1080 monitor now, and I'm looking forward to some of the titles coming up like Watch Dogs and Dark Souls 2. My CPU, RAM and other specs still look pretty good going into the next generation, but I'm worried that my already two year old GPU won't be able to handle the next round of games. Is it really time for me to move on from the HD 6850, and if it is, where do I go? I feel pretty comfortable with AMD's stuff these days, but I'm not opposed to Going Nvidia if it's suggested. Ideally, I'd like to stay in the same spot the 6850 occupied when it was released -- upper midrange, not too expensive, that sort of thing. Here's the rest of the machine. Any suggestions are of great help.

CPU: FX-8320
RAM: 8GB
PSU: Antec 550W (about two years old)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 (if I remember right...might be the 990FXA)

Example games I might end up playing:
Assassin's Creed IV
Dark Souls 2
Watch Dogs
Whatever weird little games pop up on Steam in 2014
Not BF4. Probably.

Thanks, guys. I look forward to some suggestions.

I'm looking toward the R9 270 (non X) as a solution. It's not very expensive, and it's kind of in the same place my 6850 was when it came out. The price of the 280X seems a little high for me right now. I'm okay knocking down a few settings to get better framerates, I just really need to run at 1080p with at least 30FPS. It seems like the 270 will do that for me and into the future for a bit. Am I right?

EDIT: That was supposed to say 270, but apparently I can't type...or read.
