I recently bought an older computer and ive been having issues with staying connected to my network. Mostly it seems to be prominent when trying to watch a video on youtube wherein my video will stop suddenly and every device on my network can no longer connect to the internet. Rebooting the computer or the xbox does nothing and nor does disconnecting/reconnecting to the network. Thus far the only way ive found to fix it is to unplug the modem. Ive searched quite a bit on this and it seems alot of people have a similar problem but its not quite the same...most people say a simple reboot of the computer fixes them but it dosnt work for me. I read deleting your internet browser cache would help which it did not. i also read lowering your screen resolution could help if your PSU isnt all that great and that didnt help me either. Im not sure what else to do or try and any advice would be much appreciated... my modem/router/wifi dongle are all pretty old but i do not think they're the main issue since i can play a game for 10 hours and be totally fine and then youtube simply murders my wifi connection within 20 mins...again...any help would be great...please and thankyou

Well when this is happening this computer is typically the only device using it at the time...where in the past ive had 2 computers and an xbox going all at once without any problems... but i suppose that could easily fall into the its dying category..then again its only youtube that does it...dosnt do it on other computer when i youtube or my xbox when i youtube or even my phone when it youtubes on the wifi connection...just this one....ive streamed videos for hours on other sites its just youtube on just this computer

Have you updated firmware on a router before? From what I understand, it can be a rather finicky and precise process that can sometimes take a few attempts. I'm no expert, but if you haven't, I would post another thread on here asking someone to walk you through it.

I'm having the same issue as you (and others, from the looks of things), but I don't believe it's the router. We have a very expensive Meraki in the house (my roommate is a developer) and it doesn't give any device in the house trouble except mine. I'm using a Samsung NP550CP5C (http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/office/mobile-computing/notebook/NP550P5C-S03CA-features [I have the i5 option, not i7]) and one thought that struck me involved the PSU; I saw a post on here saying that one person was having this problem because of power issues. Maybe given this laptops age and features (GPU, setting screen to full brightness, etc.), streaming is causing power issues? Seems strange to me, but I'm too unfamiliar with Windows 8 to get any real answers out of it. Maybe it's drivers?
