Hi everybody, i'm going to be building a computer for my friend as his one was struck by lightning. I'm just wondering if every part of the computer is now destroyed or if it is possible that some components have been destroyed and some have survived? Or will a lightning strike mean your computer is completely destroyed? Or are any parts salvageable for use in the new computer?

Solution
In most cases, PSU will blow, making other parts undamaged. But that is not always the case.
My suggestion for you would be, if you are sure that PSU is blown, buy a new one and hook it up into your computer, boot it up, and see whats happening. If it boots, you had luck and you wont be needing spending more money for replacement parts, but if its not booting, IE blank screen most likely its MBO. So you buy MBO, replace it, rinse and repeat.

Or just replace everything if computer is out of date.

And a tip for your friend: Belkin Surge protection, not that expensive if you look at computer bill ;)
