Dear community,

I recently build my first computer. I lost my previous windows 7 dvd a couple of years ago while moving. Yesterday I went to the store to buy windows 8 (or 7) and to my surprise they only sell upgrades. Since I need a clean install I have been reading up on buying and downloading the ISO file which I can then put on a USB to create a bootable usb key (or dvd). Since my system is using 8GB of ram I'm looking for the 64 bit version. The issue is it's not functioning because I'm using a 32 bit system to do all of this from. Would it be possible to burn the 64bit os ISO file to a DVD from my 32 bit os? Will it boot automatically? And can I use an external dvd player/writer for this? Is there absolutely no way I could create a bootable USB key with the 64 bit os iso on it?

I'm getting quite desperate. It's truly amazing how difficult the most basic things get.

Thank you!

Yes, it is possible to burn a 64Bit OS onto a DVD in a 32Bit environment.
If the OS image is a bootable one, yes, you will be able to boot from the Dvd you create.
Yes, you can use an external Dvd writer/player for this.

You can create a bootable USB drive using the ISO using the "Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool"

Download it from here..

Hey Alyoshka,

Thank you for the information. I used the windows 7 usb dvd download tool before which worked perfectly until right in the end. I got a message saying. "Copy completed succesfully, however bootsect failed to ...."

Also I'm pretty sure I have UEFI on the mobo.
