Hi Guys,

I'm hoping I can borrow some of your knowledge to asses if a Dell Optiplex 960 I have lying around is worth upgrading to play a few games on.

Basically I was thinking of getting a new graphics card and an SSD in the hope that the cpu and ram would be good enough to play modern games. I'm not expecting top end performance here, just enough to play relatively decent settings at 1080p.

Here are the systems specs:
cpu: intel core 2 quad Q9650 @3 GHz
ram : 8GB DDR2 @800 MHz

I'm kind of lacking knowledge of the motherboard specs. I think it has a pci express x16 port for the graphics card (it came with a 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3470).

What do you guys think? Would a new graphics card be worth the investment? My xbox has just died and I fancy returning to pc gaming. The computer is a few years old now but was pretty decent at the time of purchase.

Cheers,

Rich

well depending on the form factor if it one of the big one (micro ATX size) then yes you can upgrade the GPU i assume it is one of the big ones cause of the GPU that was in it so upgrade to a 7750 radeon or 7770 if you can afford it they are good medium low end cards can run all modern games some not on high plus 21080p (maybe a pic from google or a IRL pic or something) it SSD probably won't be necessary a new HDD @ 7200RPM will do a good job for what you need
