It seems that I may have an issue with my upgrade plans. I've just bought a Samsung 840 EVO 256GB SSD, on which i planned to install a brand new Win8.1

What I've just discovered is that my Asus P5N-D motherboard does not have AHCI.

While I wait for a new USB stick to boot from, I wanted to ask how this is going to affect upgrading to an SSD now and if I should watch out for anything. I know I wont get the full effect, but as far as i understand I should still get a good boost in speed without any major issues. I'll probably be upgrading this tomorrow or Thursday

Also can I switch to AHCI in 4-6 months when I'll be able to afford a new mobo and processor, and probably RAM?

Cheers
