Im kicking myself now for only getting a 120GB Corsair Force SSD drive to act as C: when i build my setup. Should have gone bigger...

Now C: is full of software (im a graphics artist - lots of software) and im wondering what to do next.

As far as my limited insight is - I can get a new 256GB SSD to replace C: and then use this old 120GB SSD as a nice coaster (any other cool uses for a spare SSD?)

Or get another 120GB drive and RAID 0 them for twice the storage and better speed. Never done that before. Ill have to format my C:? stick it on my D: HD, set up the RAID somehow, then transfer C: back onto the SSDs?

Or other options?

Not sure whats best, easiest and most effective. Advice is much appreciated :)  As is info on how to RAID or best transfer drives. Thanks

Move less used applications to your mechanical drive.

Buy an SSD upgrade kit, will come with transfer software. Use your second SSD as a dedicated storage spot for your most used programs.

Use your own transfer software, clonezilla, and an external hard drive to back up your drive.
Buy a second SSD create a raid array (enable raid, create array in the raid utility)
Place the drive image on the array, boot (hopefully, don't erase your backups)

RAID SSDs, you wont notice the performance difference. My opinion is get a larger SSD and clone it. Then you could use the smaller one as a cache for your applications like if you use Adobe Photoshop you can tell it to cache to the smaller SSD.

You could do what I do. I have a 180GB Intel 520 and 2 2TB Seagates in RAID0. I use the SSD for a game or two, the OS and basic apps and the RAID 0 is my main drive for data, games and such. Nothing beats having 4TB and 400GB of games/movies/whatever and still having tons of room.

this is one of the problems of SSDs - they're small in capacity for the dollar spend & physical space in the machine.

i had an SSD, but in the end decided on just a nice 2.5" WD Black 750G, which is fast enough, has plenty of storage for future OS installs and software, and it's physically the same size as an SSD which makes mounting in your case easy (i'm about to pick up one of those SSD/2.5" drive holders that uses an empty PCI slot (not the mobo slot, just the chassis slot).

in your case, either get a 256G or larger SSD and set up your OS on there (system image & restore), or get a small high-cap Black if you don't need every last iota of speed.

wonder if you could do the 2.5" HDD + your existing 120G SSD as a readyboost / cache device. that might be a nice low-cost hybrid approach.

Just buy a 250 GB Samsung 840 Evo, which comes with a migration tool. Just install the new one migrate it and change boot sequence in BIOS. Later you can use your old SSD as a scratch disk. Usually you only new a mounting bracket and a SATA cable. If you don't have both, you can boy the desktop upgrade kit.

Thanks for the advice guys, im much clearer now on the next steps. Sounds like just getting a bigger SSD, system image and restore onto the new drive, is a good way to go. Then ill play around with this spare SSD for a cache disk or just sell it since its like 2 months old!
