I recently moved and the move must have damaged my computer because it would restart automatically at random times (sometimes weeks, sometimes minutes) and it can restart at anytime during use or bootup (sometimes even before the first beep). Before the move, I had no problems at all. After each of these automatic restarts, I would check temperatures of the cpu, gpu and hd and they were all quite low 45-55'C for cpu, and less than 65'C for the rest, iirc.

System

CPU: i5 2500
motherboard: AsRock Extreme3 z77 (old = Asus p8p67)
power supply: Antec HCG 620w (other = Coolermaster 1000w)
ram: 4x4gb
video: HD7850
drives: 6xSata

I read a couple of threads and the consensus was the problem was either with the power supply or the motherboard. I switched to a Antec 620w and I encountered a new problem: the power led will turn on and then fade 1 second after I turn on the power supply. Pressing the case power button does nothing. I switched back to the Coolermaster 1000w and same problem.

I switched the p8p67 to the extreme3 and the fading led doesnt not occur. When I press the case power button, the leds light on for half a second, and the CPU fans work for half a second before stopping. Repeated presses of the power button does nothing unless I toggle the on/off for the power supply.

I had an external Seagate HD hooked up to USB and I noticed it turns on when I turn the power supply on (didnt really pay attention before). So...

i. any power supply + p8p67 ...and external HD does not power on when power supply is turned on, even though the motherboard led lights up
ii. any power supply + extreme3 ...and external HD powers on when the power supply is turned on

I also tried to single stick each memory stick and I still get the same problem.

Any ideas?

Kernel error would be software related, not hardware.

Removed gpu and same problem still occurs. I will try to pick up a 3470 or 3570 on black friday.

Also, when the computer was rebooting automatically, the message in the event log was something like:

critical error, kernel error 41, system rebooted without cleaning shutting off

Not sure if this narrows down the problem

Since integrated graphics don't work, this proves that the GPU is not causing this issue. I would have to say that, to me, it's looking like your motherboard is broken.
