I have a compaq presario SR1710NX. It has an embedded graphics video system. I have a flatscreen Pro-View monitor. The regular graphics display is a Radeon "videocard". Ineeded more graphics power. So I bought a new 2 gig graphics card.

I bought a more powerful, compatible Radeon Force 3D AmD ATI (HDMI model F5450P-D3-460-FS , it is a DDR3). The computer does have a PCI-E slot. I plugged it in. Before that, i uninstalled the drivers for my current older graphics embedded card and went to BIOS and disabled the setup for the older driver. It is now setup for PCI-E.

PROBLEM: As long as I have the new card installed into my PC, and have the monitor plug plugged into the new card, MY MONITOR WILL NOT DISPLAY OR WORK. Everythng else works. No beeps. I went to "another " inferior website that told me to do what I did above and it should work. But it doesn't. They also said I should get a 6 pin adapter, a "power lead". But my 55$ new powerful video card does not have an interior plug in or pin to plug inanywhere. It needs the monitor plug.
So my problem is that I can't get the thing to work. THEORY...QUESTION? Can I uninstall the new card, yet download the new needed drivers for the new card, then replug or reintall the new card onto the motherboard, and plug in the montior cable into it, or the old montior slot/plug and expect it to work?

I really hate embeded graphic card Compaq motherboards. Usually, with any other computer, you just insert the new card, and plug in the monitor cable into the new card and then insert installation CD and download the new drivers and walla. But that is not working here.

I NEED HELP. I need my escapism games that I play on my PC and I need more graphics power.
I came to this site because you all are famous. This is the best site. Can you help this confused older computer geek person who is stumped (and needs to relearn or learn new tricks).

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP.

exact model number /make of the computer would be nice. how ever commonly those computers come with very weak power supplies. so it might be a case of just needing to upgrade it. on the other hand it could be something as simple as going into the bio's by pressing f4 or f10 or f8... depends on the vendor there should be something reguarding video out put or display output and set it to pci vs onboard you also need to make sure you have the monitor plugged into the onboard video before you make the switch. other wise you wont get an image reboot and plug it into the new graphics card video port

The HD5450 does not require external power. It just needs to be plugged into a PCIe x16 slot (the slot provides all needed power).

The issue is likely that your Compaq only has a 250w power supply (if you still have the original one installed). That older PSU is likely not providing enough power to the new video card.

It is possible that the new video card is defective. I only mention that as a possibility.

I will check the power supply. If I need a new better one, that I will get. If not, I am giving up. the old computer model, goodguy, was sr1710nx. the monitor was a flatscreen Pro-View. the card is a Radeon PCI-E F5450P-d3-460-fs. the card is a Force 3d amd ati hdmi Radeon. thanks for your help.
