I've overclocked my CPU using this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MckeAmnDeTk" target="_blank">http://[/url ]and I am only getting 3.8Ghz out of it before the temperatures get at a ridiculous level of around 70 Celsius. I am using the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU fan with the thermal paste it came with on a ASUS M5A97 in a Cooler Master HAF 912+ with the 200mm intake fan and the 120mm fan at the back. Any ideas why I'm getting such high temperatures?

Thanks,
Alex

You need to explain in detail the changes you made to over-clock your system.

Including complete system specs like RAMs, power supply and video card would be beneficial, too.

Make sure you're reading the right set of temperatures. Reading CPU temperatures is really a sort of art, since it is kind of a convoluted process; there are two sets of temperature readings: the CPU Core and CPU Socket. The CPU Socket temperatures are great for reading idle temperatures, but usually read 5-15C higher when at load. The CPU Core temperatures, being affected by a type of "weighted equation" produce accurate temperature at load, but weird, often sub-ambient temperatures when at idle.

If you have a Radeon GPU, AMD Overdrive is pretty good for CPU core temperatures. Coretemp should do the trick too. HWMonitor will usually tell you both, but you'll want to cross-reference so you can make sure you know which is which.
