Quick question on latency

Hi all

Just about ready to order the parts for my long-overdue rebuild and I just want to check my RAM choice. Will I notice any improvement at all between CL7 and CL9 RAM? It's all G.Skill Ripjaws X and there is only a £7 difference - but I won't bother if I'm not even going to notice it.

If no immediate difference, will it make life any easier/more difficult when I eventually pluck up the courage to try OCing?

Thanks in advance

It depends on who you ask, and CAS Latency is a controversial topic. The difference between CL9 and CL7 access times is somewhere around 3-5 nanoseconds. Personally, I don't use CAS latency as a determining factor, as the increase in memory size and speed has altered what CL timings are considered good. My view is that it's not worth it for the average user. For power or very big overclockers, there is slightly more relevance. That said, it won't make it any easier or more difficult to overclock.

Thank you P1nnacle for the quick response. I'll press on with the order then.
