I was seriously considering getting a R9 290x or 780 ti but I realized that I reach a point of diminishing return with my LG 27" IPS monitor at 1080p.

What would be the best value considering I run an HD 7870 GHz edition currently?

Personally I'd stay with the 7870 GHz unless you are having issues with your FPS. In that case i'd go with the GTX 780 TI if the $700 price tag isn't an issue for you. Oh and what are your other computer specs? what game/games are you trying to run that the 7870 isn't cutting it?

I am having issues with FPS in games like Total War where there is just a boat load of rendering. I really don't do much FPS (my system can handle that really well actually).

This is what I've got going on right now.

CPU: Intel i5-3470
MoBo: Biostar TZ77B
RAM: 16 GB Corsair Vengeance @1600MHz
SSD: Samsung 840 Series 120 GB
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 1 TB
PSU: Corsair CX500

I would not go for a 780 Ti or a R9 290X either, because your CPU is not really a beast, and by the way your 7870 should be fine... But hey, if you want the best your PC wouldn't bottleneck I would go for a 770 or a R9 280X, since you should play almost anything max out with great FPS.

Hope it helped!
