Hello everyone! I have a computer I built a few years ago for 900$. Before you say anything, when I bought it I had almost no idea of how to do it, so I mostly blindly followed the advice of my local PC component shop (Big fail, I know). After all, I ended up with this setting:

CPU - QuadCore Intel Core i7 920, 650 MHz (12 x 54)
Motherboard - Asus P6T (2 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 3 PCI-E x16, 6 DDR3 DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN,
IEEE-1394)
RAM (4Gb) -2x 2 GB DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM (8-8-8-22 @ 609 MHz) (7-7-7-20 @ 533 MHz)
(6-6-6-17 @ 457 MHz)
Graphics -NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 (512 MB)

Well, this thing worked like a rocket when I first bought it, but now for this last year the performance has been going lower and lower, so I want to improve it (I hope it's still possible to do so, as it would be impossible for me to afford building another computer from scratch). What I'm not sure about, it's what to upgrade right now to improve performance while keeping a low budget.

I first thought in adding more RAM, because I thought I couldn't go wrong with that, but I don't know if the difference in performance is gonna be big enough.

The other option would be getting a better Graphic card, since every gamer now is using a GTX series, but I'm not sure if I should do it because I don't know how expensive it could be, and i don't want to end buying a slightly better graphic card that will stay "up to date" for the next year or less, then having to buy a new one again. Also a friend told me about buying another graphic card and running both cards at the same time, is this plausible? Will I end up with "double performance" (I know it will never be really double, understand me) or will it just give me a headache of problems?

Sorry for the long post, thank you for just reading it. I would be very happy if I could get some help with this! By the way, the two upgrade options I said are just from the very few things I know about building computers. If you think there could be a better thing of upgrading it, please tell me!

P.S. I know you are gonna ask for my budget. I don't really know, I could say 200$, but I have no idea of how expensive this could be so I would apreciate much if you could also tell me how much money should I expect to expend on this, how much do you think a "low budget" and a "reasonable busget" are?

P.S. 2 - English is not my native language, so I'm really sorry if it's hard to read or bad written. If you don't understand something, or think that it could be better explained, feel free to tell me so I can improve it ^^

You are on the right track, upgrading RAM and GPU will do for now. Else you have to upgrade the whole system. I wouldn't recommend another GT 240 for SLI, wont do you much good.

So here is something I would like to suggest. You would be fine for couple of years :

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($44.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card ($249.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $294.97
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Before you buy RAM, check the Timing of your existing RAM. What you have posted I think that of CPU-Z or Speecy or similar program, and you picked the SPD values. If you use CPU-Z then look into the "Memory" section for "Timing", not in the "SPD" section.

Its very important to match the Timing, CAS, Latency between old and new RAM. Good luck.

And if you are using a 32bit OS then 4GB RAM will be enough, you could use the extra RAM with only 64bits OS.

Well for playing all the new games you need to upgrade your GPU and Ram .. The processor is still good and should not cause any problem.. My recommendation will be to get :

Graphics Card : ATI Raedon HD 7850 2GB GDDR5 (http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Edition-DisplayPort-Graphics-FX785AZNL4/dp/B009TS478K/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1385497671&sr=8-9&keywords=HD+7850)

Ram : 2x4GB 1600 Mhz (http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-PC3-12800-1600mHz-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B/dp/B004QBUL1C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1385497494&sr=8-3&keywords=8+GB+RAM)

If you get the following this your PC should be able to handle almost all the games that you throw on it.. and both of them will cost around $220-230 .. So they are in your budget as well ...

Thanks for the answers! Just a thing, I found a local offer for 4x4Gb RAM, that would get me a total of 20 Gbs of RAM (ofc I use 64 bit windows). I don't use Photoshop or video-editing software so this will be a huge overkill and waste of memory right? I think I will just get 4 more gbs and that graphic card. The 16 Gb option, though, its just for 110$, that's why I still have the doubt.

By the way, what online shop would you recommend me to order both the memory and the graphic card? I prefer buying it in US shops since I use euros and I get better prices that way.

You cannot use your previous Ram sticks with the new ones.. Both of them have diff frequency and trimmings.. It can create major problems. The 4x4Gb plan is not bad.. You cannot say it is useless.. Games are becoming more nd more demanding day by day, so they might become useful.. If they are from a branded company with frequency above 1600 ..get them.. You can buy the GPU from either Amazon or Newegg..both of them are good !
