I did a repair install from an ISO downloaded from Microsoft via digital rivers. I think it's referred to as an in place upgrade? Anyway, the install went fine, no problems. The problems started after I reinstalled all of the updates. Now I get the same errors repeating every time I boot up. No BSOD yet.
The errors are DNS Client, WMI, Kernel-PnP, Service Control, TaskScheduler, an Kernal event tracing.
I have no idea what these even are much less how to fix them. Can anyone help?

I totally understand, but a reinstall takes a lot less time than trying to troubleshoot a total hosed installation and then later finally doing the reinstall.

That's one reason that I clone my 480GB OS SSD to a 500GB HDD about once a month so I have a highly reliable very quick fix without reinstalling tons of programs and all the VMs on my VMWare workstation.

I would first check your memory by running memtest86 from HERE, burn to a CD and boot from it to run. Let it do a couple passes and 0 errors is the only acceptable result.

Then if all is okay, I would do another repair install following the guide HERE. Then load all of your drivers, then do the updates for Windows.

I haven't run Memtest, that's about the only thing I didn't think of. I have an old one, better check and burn a new one LOL.
I hate doing another reinstall. I think it's those updates screwing things up. That's why I had to do the repair install in the first place. Grrrrr.

I suppose you are right on the reinstall. I would have made a backup but the backup for Win 7 Pro quite working when I installed SP1. After that the errors started piling up. In desperation I did the "repair upgrade". The problem is with one of those stupid updates. If memory serves me right I think there were 143 + the optional ones. I asked a Microsoft tech if I should install those too and he said "Absolutely". The DNS error is because I don't have a TCP/IPv6 card installed. I have a TCP/IPv4. I unchecked the box in managing the network/control panel. That should have taken care of the problem.

I'm going to check my system restore and see if I made a restore point BEFORE I started adding updates. I'm pretty sure I did. Can I do a system restore and not have to do a reinstall?
