PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: ALL (I live in dallas)

PARTS PREFERENCES: Should be latest generation, should be future proof for 2 years!

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe, better if out of the box SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe, after 1-2 years when the games of that generation become unplayable, I would like to add a card rather than buy a new

MONITOR RESOLUTION: currently 1080p, future 1440p

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Should be a good deal, at least 20 percent price drop over pre-holiday price

My shortlist now is R9 290~400$ or GTX 780~500$

R9 290 is a month old and I am worried if there would be any issue with respect to the life of the card because of it running at 95 degree C.

there are no after market coolers on R9 290 yet, and there are no solid reports of one being there any soon? Do you guys have any info on it?

as far as the benchmarks go i believe 290 is slightly better than 780, by you get 3 games worth 160$ with 780 and 1 game with 290. so effective price for both is ~350$

Another problem I have is no side by side comparison of after market 780's like Asus vs gigabyte vs stock.

Any and all advice is appreciated, especially from owner of R9 290 (if they are facing any issues with 95 degree C)

The 290 is on par or faster than the 780 I believe. The only thing is that the 290 draws more power, runs hotter, and doesn't have non reference air cooling just yet. I'm more than 100% certain that all the big brands are already developing aftermarket coolers for the r9 290, as for when they come out, that's anyone's best guess.

Personally I would go with the 780 just because I don't like my GPUs reaching that high of a temp. But other people may be fine with it.

The 290 tends to run at higher temps than the 780 so it has to increase fan speed to compensate making it a loud card as well. That being said it is a bit faster that the 780

Third party cooling solutions are rumored to be coming out some time in December, the 290 is faster and cheaper than the 780 @ 1440p, the card is designed to operate at 95 degrees and with the better cooling solutions coming out it should bring noise down.

Can't go wrong with either, just depends on how much money you want to spend.

Any link/reviews that compare all the after market 780? which is a good 780? The one I like with respect to value for money is :

MSI Gaming N780 ~ 480$

ASUS GTX780-DC2OC ~ 520$

GIGABYTE GV-N780OC
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

which one of these are good? any other recommendations are welcome.

I love the R9 290, but I am not convinced about the stock cooler, and i don't wanna tinker and void the warranty.

I have read more than a few reviews about Gigabyte's fans going on their cards. I would go with the MSI its a bit cheaper and the clock speed is higher.

Out of the millions 780 which one would you suggest, 400-550 (preferable with a good discount)?

My choice would be the EVGA ASX model , runs super cool and quiet and overclocks well, gets a lot of good reviews
