Hi,

How do I find which graphics cards are compatible with my late model 2006 20" iMac. It seems that my ATI Radeon X1600 with 128MB GDDR3 SDRAM graphics card is dying.

I would like something with similar performance.

Or could you suggest where to find a replacement part.

Thanks

I may not be a Mac expert, but that is a 8 year old system and alot has changed over the years for Apple, the most important being they stopped being the only makers of computer components and aligning better with mainstream makers. That would be a problem because with such a old system there wouldn't be any support, much less parts around for that model. That card you mentioned isn't even available in second hand 'trash' computer stores 'plastic bargain bin' tossed in with all the other ancient cards.

Computers support / compatibility is normally 4-5 years, after that you won't find any, it is time to embrace the new systems I am afraid and put this one to bed.

Thanks Tom. It's my spare computer that I would like to sell. It's in great condition other than it sometimes gets a couple lines running across the screen - although not always. I've been told it's likely the graphics card because everything else tests as being ok. I'm ok selling it as is, but I thought it would be good to sell it with a new graphics card. AMD (owner of ATI graphic cards) told me that x1800 and x1900 cards should be compatible with it.

Yeah but except for a 'collector' might be interested in it, no one will really buy it due to the inability to support the current OS version, current hardware demands, etc. You might get a hundred or two, but I doubt it (Ebay results of same systems http://www.ebay.com/ctg/Apple-iMac-A1174-20-Desktop-MA200LL-A-January-2006-/78134953).
