System Info:

CPU: Intel I5-2400 @ 3.1Ghz
MOTHERBOARD: MSI H77A-G43
GPU: ASUS GTX650 TI SERIES
PSU: Corsaire CX-600
RAM: Corsaire (2x8Gbs) 1600
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So i bought the GPU used from newegg and i've heard that a lot of people OC them until they are pretty much dead and then return them so. I wanted to test it out on MAX settings; GPU Clock(Mhz) 1326MAX, Memory Clock(MHZ) 7222MAX. As soon as i hit apply (ON ASUS GPU TWEAK) everything goes rainbow and i haft to restart to put it back to normal. So i guess the question is why did this happen, What should my settings be if used for gaming such as Assasins Creed Black Flag, and is it bad to put it on max settings ever?

Solution
It happened because its not stable at that, memory clocks is probably what did it. Not all cards are stable at the same clocks, you'd be lucky to get over 1200Mhz on a 650Ti.

If i wanted the best quality and performance in my game what are the recommended tweaks should i do to my GPU? On the (Game) Setting GPU is 1000, Memory is 5400.

Download a benchmark program, Unigine Valley and Heaven are good. Use the overclocking tool to max out the power limit and voltage (the voltage on 600 series cards is limited through the BIOS so no worries of damage), then its a simple matter of bumping up the clocks, testing for a few minutes in a benchmark to see if it crashes, if it doesn't, keep going, if it does, back it down until it doesn't.

Well im assuming running it right before the brink of failure would reduce its life span drastically?

right but woudlnt that reduce its life span, Also when i change the clocks ill get "Driver has stopped working and recovered" but it still works after that when i use the benchmark test. Are you refering to when i clock and use the bench and then it fails adjust or adjust until it "stops working"

It works after crashing because it resets its clocks after that, if its crashing as soon as you hit apply you are setting the clocks too high. You 'want' it to crash during the benchmark, that indicates you've went too high, backing off by a few Mhz will solve it.

Life span really isn't a concern, the voltage locks will take care of it. Besides, the card is only going to be usable for 3 or 4 years tops, after that gaming performance will be extremely slow, lifespan would be the last thing to worry about.

I should be a little more specific, after it recovers the changes i applied are still applied. If i change it to 1300Mhz, and 5700Mhz from 1000mhz and 5000Mhz after i click apply it goes black and "driver crashes recovered blah blah" Its value is now 13000mhz and 5700mhz. Then i run the benchmark test and see if it crashes while it running. Is that the process i should run or is it apply if it recovers dial it down some?

That was a mis type it was suppose to be 1200mhz, what do you mean by enabling on screen display? you mean watch the ASUS tweaking tool, im dual monitoring so i can see both.

Thats the program im using provided from asus CD. So basically dont be concerned about the driver recovering at clicking apply just if it crashes during benchmark test.
