Hey Guys

I want to upgrade my cpu so that I can get a gtx 780. The reason I want to upgrade is because I was told that if I wanted to get a 780 I needed to upgrade to something like a i5 4670k with a z-87 chipset motherboard so that i don't bottleneck the GPU and was wondering if there is anything that is a better deal the the i5 4670k with in the same price range and if you could recommend a mother board the supports nvidia sli for no more then $200 that would be much appreciated . I do a 70 30 split when it comes to a gaming to video editing percentage.

System Specs
CPU: AMD FX-8350
GPU: ASUS GTX 660 ti Direct CU2
Ram: 8gb
PSU: 750w
Nothing has been overclocked

He is using this mobo its basically the same as the above mobo but with minor additions like 6 sata ports...

Don't make the same mistake I made when I upgraded from an overclocked Phenom II X6 to my 2600k.

I learned, the expensive way, that my GPU's (SLI) were doing most of the heavy lifting in the games I was playing. The primary difference I noticed was in my bank account.

My games played pretty much the same. Your 8350 is a good bit stronger than my old X6 was. If I were you, I would roll the money you budgeted for a CPU/MB upgrade into a 780Ti and possibly a CPU cooler upgrade (If your MB VRM's can handle overclocking the 8350)

Your CPU doesn't need an overclock for a 780 Ti, and you won't notice a big difference compared to the massive jump the video card will bring, but if you still have money leftover after getting the 780Ti, a CPU overclock will give you a slight bump in performance.

As others have said previously, your CPU is fine. If you feel like it's struggling, you should look into overclocking it. At this point, the only upgrade for you would be a CPU that isn't available to the public yet; the next gen CPUs. An upgrade to an i5-4670k or even an i7-4770k for gaming, you would only notice minor FPS gains.

So if i wanted to get the msi gtx 780 lightning edition i would not have to upgrade anything? Is it a better deal to spend the extra $200 on a 780 ti or is it better to get the lightning edition?

Man I just got my computer 8350 oc to 4.5 with 780 ti and there's no hitch of a problem with gaming and 3D rendering.

its not worth to upgrade on 4670k because
first: you have to change buy at least a decent intel motherboard.
second: its almost the same if not better in performance than 4670k
instead of buying almost 350$ more for a set of CPU and Mobo, Just get the fastest available Graphics card just add 150-200$ on Evga gtx 780 ti superclocked instead of the normal gtx 780 and use the 150$ you save and buy ssd or whatever you want.
