I'm looking to build a computer, and I was wondering if I can buy just an SSD and install Windows 8 onto that. I'd have an external HDD for my other stuff. Is this possible? Does it work the same way I would to install it onto an HDD? Just plug everything in and insert the Windows 8 install DVD?
Yes, you can install Windows 8 onto an SSD. Before installing Windows 8 you should check the BIOS and make sure it is set to ACHI mode instead of IDE to be able to make use of the TRIM support of ACHI. TRIM support is important in keeping the SSD "healthy" and will prolong the life of the SSD.
