Hello I'm looking to upgrade my old gateway PC here is a link to the specs. http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/gateway-fx6800-01e/450...
I upgraded to 15gb of ram and a Nvidia GTS 450 a while ago. Here are my questions. Will these work with my PC and with my motherboard properly.

Also I am still using Vista and want to upgrade my OS. I've heard nothing good about windows 8, should I go for 7? I will be starting school for graphic design and digital art in January I also like to play MMO's. I just want to beef up my old PC without buying everything all over. Unless that is a bad idea. I'm pretty lost. Thank you for any help and any advice.

Josh~

The gtx780 will fit, but the new i7 will not fit, because your MB is the LGA1366 format, and the new i7 is the LGA1155.
And if you don't have the good 600 PSU with 42A on the +12V rail then you need get one for the GPU, like the one in the link. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

so in your opinion would it be more cost efficient to just build a new PC? I get my student loans in January. I kind of want to keep up with the new games etc.

Yes, it is better get the new PC if you want to keep up the new games, because the old i7 is dead end upgrade path.
Here is the review " Is This Even Fair? Budget Ivy Bridge Takes On Core 2 Duo And Quad ", Your i7 is one tier better than the c2q 9550.
