H90 Fan Speeds

Hi guys,

My radiatior fan (a Corsair AF140) is in push although it seems to be running at a low speed, ie. approx 670-680RPM with CPU temps in the mid 40 C range. CPU plugged into CPU fan header and AF140 plugged into SYSFAN1.

I have a 2 other standard Fractal R4 front intake case fans controlled by the fan speed controller and 2 other Corsair AF140 LED fans plugged into SYSFAN2 and 3 which run at 1000-1100 RPM.

I am wondering why the rad fan is quite slow and perhaps not doing as much cooling as it should.

I have tried Speedfan but my system didn't like it and Easytune6 is a little confusing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

If you go into your bios, you'll see that each of your case fan headers has a separate speed...

What are your temperatures on the CPU when doing stuff?

I think this may just be the magic of watercooling, in that you've bought a watercooling kit so that a) your stuff doesn't get as hot and b) so that your computer isn't that loud.

BF4 gets it up to around 60C but the fan speed doesn't seem to change much and I can tell just from putting my hand on the rear exhaust that the airflow is not significant, when compared to say the top exhaust fan.

If you go into your bios, you'll see that each of your case fan headers has a separate speed control. Obviously, if they are set differently you will get different speeds on the different fans.

I found the answer to this problem after doing some more research/testing...

As it turns out, the X79-UD3 mobo fan header settings aren't very that configurable in the Bios, ie. changing fan header settings does not alter the speeds - mainly because the fans used are all 3 pin headers which run at close to full RPM ranges, eg. 1000 RPM.

The fix for my initial problem/question was to simply use the stock fan in Pull (a 4 pin PWM fan) controlled by the mobo and the AF140 in Push controlled by the Fractal R4 front header switch (5/7/12v).

Fan speeds are now as they should be, ie. running at 850RPM as I type this, but more importantly increase when under load with CPU temps staying around 60 or lower.

So the issue has been fixed and is now working as it should be. Thanks to all the replies either way as it helped me to research fan speeds/mobo control a little more.
